Question: Should Hot 97 support NY Hip-Hop?

Just wanted to share this video on the debate – should Hot 97 support local hip-hop. NY rappers are calling for more support from Hot 97 but Rosenberg does play plenty of NY hip-hop. What is your opinion?

Juicy J x Lola Monroe – Ride Wit ‘Em

Tough song from @TheRealJuicyJ and @Thee_LolaMonroe can definitely see this getting plenty of plays in Memphis and the South. Has that hard edge that goes down so well in the Southern clubs and every dude going to be rocking this in their whip. All black everything.

Star Murphy – Anywhere

Nashville’s new diva, Star Murphy, drops her new video for her single “Anywhere.”

Quality video that showcases Star’s lyrics, vocals and performance abilities.Getting plenty of love in the South-East and looking like it will be picked up across the board as plenty of blogs are jumping on the bandwagon.

Talented artist!!

Follow Star on the following channels:

Dorrough x Yung Nation – All Gold Everything

Yung Nation are a duo that we have been tracking for a long time. Repping Dallas, the talent two have been laying down amazing freestyles and working in and around the talented Trai’D and Beauty On Da Beat and DJ Mr Rodgers. Here they partner with Dorrough to get that increased exposure. Great track for Dallas to lead them into the new year.

Shouts out to @YadiEnterprises for the tip!!

Jacob Latimore – This Is Me Mixtape

Jacob Latimore, the teen sensation signed to RCA Records, drops his first mixtape titled “This Is Me.”

This is a great, pop/R&B mixtape that has a great combination of records for the teen girls and also will satisfy the more traditional R&B fans. The tracks with Diggy and OMG Girlz show the potential in Jacob to be a major, mainstream POP superstar and the similarities with a young Chris Brown are impossible to ignore. Hoping that the label really gets behind “Blast Off” featuring Diggy Simmons and tries to take it to radio – it has that sort of sound and feel.

Master Shortie – “Studying Abroad” Mixtape

British music is having massive success in the US right now and many artists are trying their hand at breaking over here. Not many however are willing to spend the time studying and understanding the US market before releasing their music. Even less are prepared to make the move to the US to embed themselves within the culture and the scene to help understand the machine and to create the necessary relationships to win in this system.

One artist who has spent the time, effort and resources to make his assault on the US market is Master Shortie. Born, Theo Kerlin, in London, England – Master Shortie has put in work both sides of the Atlantic and with the launch of his latest offering looks likely to crack both markets wide open. Having previously been signed to Sony Music US – the first British rapper with a US based deal – he has learned how to navigate the industry for success and has spent 2 years working on this masterful effort. With features from The Cataracs, Leaf, Rizzle Kicks, Ed Sheeran, Eliza Doolittle and Sway – he has composed a sonically rich collection of work that showcases both his abilities and an insight into his psyche.

To summarize – its the best mixtape offering I have heard from a British artist this year and it is a stronger effort than these Q4 albums we are being force feed from artists with massive budgets and minuscule creative intellects.

Will.I.Am x Britney Spears – Scream & Shout

Let’s go back to 2007 and IMHO the most slept on album of the year was released on September 25. “Songs About Girls” – the third solo album from Will.I.Am. Hit after hit, in the musical sense – hitless in terms of the major labels narrow minded opinions on what constitutes success. Only Poland certified it – Gold. Only peaked at 38 on the Billboard charts. This will change an artists direction…..

This leads us today and this over-sampled, under produced record that requires a half-assed Britney Spears feature to try and “guarantee” success. No substance, little style – who cares?

Will please make music for you. I love the music you make for you. But I can’t stand when you make music for the suits.

Myra Sky – House of Cards (Lyric Video)

Absolutely love the visuals for this. Myra Sky, a very talented vocalist from Tennessee, has come up with a great concept video to promote her new record “House of Cards.” I’m a little late to the party as the video already has almost 200K views but credit were credit is due. Great visuals + Great record = WIN.

Astro – Methods

Astro aka The Astronomical Kid is back with an incredible record from his upcoming “DeadBeats & Lazy Lyrics” Mixtape. The track is titled “Methods” and is once again written and produced by Astro. The talent is unbelievable and with Astro’s work ethic – he is most certainly on his way to the top of the game. I hope you enjoy!!
